Under heavy persecution, the early church created a secret symbol to cloak communication between believers. But it was not just a symbol; it was a statement of faith about who Jesus Christ was and is. They chose the Greek word “ICTHUS” which literally means “fish,” and they made it into an acrostic, affirming core truths of our faith, establishing the foundation of this new movement called the Church.
